In Ghana, a fertility doll is traditionally given to a woman who wants to give birth to a child of her own to care for, as if it is an actual baby until she becomes pregnant and give birth then she later hands it to her child as a playing toy while he or she is a toddler. This has been a cultural practice in most tribal communities here in Ghana even till date. A Ghanaian artist used cement to mould a female version fertility doll to symbolize a new birth and fresh beginning from all the atrocities that occurred during the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade to our African people especially those in diaspora.
