Akwasidae Festival in Kumasi

See the triumphant outdoor of the Asantehene receiving homages from his subjects. Watch and enjoy the beautiful cultural drumming and dancing display.

Day 1.

Kente & Adinkra Stamping Villages & Manhyia Palace Museum.

6:00 am pick up in a private air-conditioned vehicle at location of your choice within Accra. Depart busy Accra to Kumasi, capital town of the Ashanti kingdom and Ashanti Region. Visit an Ashanti traditional crafts villages. Tour a Kente weaving, Adinkra cloth stamping and a wood carving villages. See the various stages of Adinkra production and Kente weaving. Learn how the Ashanti’s came by these unique traditional crafts. Continue to Manhyia Palace Museum, an official seat and residence of the Asantehene to learn about Ashanti history.

Overnight at a midrange hotel in Kumasi.

Day 2.

Prempeh II Jubilee Museum & Okomfo Anokye Sword Site.

Tour Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, which provides a fascinating collection of Ashanti history and treasures. Visit the Okomfo Anokye Sword Site to make a sightseeing of the sword Okomfo Anokye buried into the ground about 300 years ago, exact place where Okomfo Anokye conjured the Golden stool unto the laps of king Osei tutu I, founder of Ashanti Kingdom. Witness the Akwasidae grand durbar as the Asantehene sit and receive homage from his subjects and sub-chiefs. Enjoy the drumming and dancing at the ceremony. Late afternoon drive to Accra.

Note: Akwasidae festival occurs every six weeks on sunday on the Akan calendar. The calendar is divided into nine months which lasts approximately six weeks but varying between 40 and 42 days in a period.
